BUILDING YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE (CONTINUED)
Networking with LinkedIn
Creating a Profile: A comprehensive profile succinctly outlines one's professional experience to connections,
current and future employers, and recruiters.
Building a Network: Connect with past or current classmates, FIU alumni and professors, as well as colleagues or
contacts in a professional network. They can also follow people, companies, or topics. The LinkedIn events feature
allows the creation and participation in professional events, such as online workshops, seminars, sales and
marketing events, networking events, and more. Seeking advice, job references, and guidance for future steps is
encouraged.
Job Search: Conduct company research and engage with the hiring community. Apply directly for roles, save job
searches, and notify connections and recruiters of availability.
Indicating Availability: For those seeking an internship or their first job, adding "Open to Work" to their profile is
crucial. Setting preferences for the type of opportunities being sought, including internships, remote, hybrid, or fulltime roles, is essential.
Following Company and Organization Pages: Track potential opportunities by following company and organization
pages of interest. This allows individuals to gain insight into their work culture, recruitment cycles, and career
opportunities.
Connecting with Inspirational Individuals: Seek a mentor and gain insights into your chosen career path by
connecting with professionals in industries and roles that align with your interests. Curate your newsfeed with
enlightening content, polls, articles, and more.
Joining Groups: LinkedIn groups serve as a means to engage with like-minded professionals in one's industry or
with similar interests. Gaining insights from domain experts and staying updated on industry news is valuable.
Engaging in Discussions: Actively participating in conversations enables the sharing of perspectives on pertinent
subjects and topics. Liking and commenting on posts and articles on LinkedIn is encouraged, as is creating or joining
LinkedIn groups to foster connections and growth with members who share similar interests, experiences, or
aspirations. Be mindful of tone and perspectives when engaging in open forum dialogues.
Sharing Content: Individuals can empower and educate their professional circle by posting content on LinkedIn.
They can share professional achievements and learning experiences using LinkedIn learning and other credentialing.
