Handshake: FIU’s career development platform serves as a comprehensive resource for launching careers.
Through Handshake, students can schedule appointments with career advisors and practice their interviewing skills
by conducting mock interviews.

VMock: The Mock Interviews platform is designed to empower students and professionals at various stages of their
career journey by utilizing artificial intelligence. VMock provides pre-built mock interview sets for over 100 career
tracks, allowing students to practice effectively. Users can also create custom mock interviews from the "Question
Library," attempt assignments created by career coaches, and receive AI-generated feedback. Career advisors can
verify submissions and provide additional feedback to guide improvement.

Interview Etiquette Tips
Arrive 15 minutes early for an in-person interview, and ensure you sign in at least five minutes prior to a virtual
interview.
Dress for success. Whether you are going in for a job interview or to network with future employers, first

Understand interview structures, interview questions, and interview phases. For virtual and phone interviews, keep
in mind your environment and potential distractions.
Be polite to everyone. Remember that the interview starts when you arrive and ends after you depart.
Send a thank you email or note 24-48 hours after the interview.
Types of Interviews
One-on-one: You and one interviewer ( most common) .
Panel: You are interviewed by more than one person at the
same time.
Group: You are interviewed alongside a group of candidates or
recruiters.
Meal: You are interviewed while eating ( often lunch) .
Working: You are put to work, during which you are observed.
Phone/Video: Often used as a screening tool to shortlist
candidates.
On-site/Second Round: More in-depth interview, which may
include several types of interviews, a tour, and a meal.
Interview Phases
Pre-interview Phase: Resume, transcripts, review of social networking profiles, interactions at job fairs,
conferences, information sessions, etc.
Interview Phase: The interview – interactions between employer, employees, and applicant.
Post-interview Phase: Follow-up interactions – consideration of all the information exchanged to make a final
decision.
