COVER LETTERS
Introductions
Cover letters serve as the first introduction to potential employers. Job seekers can learn the art of crafting
personalized, attention-grabbing cover letters that speak directly to a particular person and tailor their qualifications
to the specific job and company of interest. A cover letter provides a snapshot of the candidate's achievements and
personal attributes, offering hiring managers more information about the applicant beyond what is showcased in the
resume. Additionally, a cover letter allows candidates to highlight their communication skills and personality, which is
crucial for positions requiring strong verbal and written proficiency. Furthermore, a well-crafted cover letter helps
employers in making hiring decisions, especially when they are deliberating between multiple candidates.
Do Candidates Need a Cover Letter?
The short answer is yes. Even in situations where the cover letter is optional, a recent poll revealed that 72% of hiring
managers expect a cover letter, and 77% are more likely to consider a resume that includes one. In the same poll,
83% of recruiters stated that a cover letter could potentially lead to an interview, even if the accompanying resume is
not strong enough.
